How to Fix Canon Support Code 6000
Canon Support Code 6000 indicates a Line Feed (LF) error. The printer cannot rotate the feed rollers correctly, usually because of a physical jam in the paper path or a dirty sensor film.
Step 1: Remove Paper Fragments
Even a tiny torn corner of paper wrapped around a roller will trigger a 6000 error.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the main cover and the rear tray.
- Shine a flashlight down into the feed mechanism.
- If you see any paper, gently pull it out.
- Open the rear duplexer panel (if your printer has one) and check the secondary rollers.
Step 2: Clean the Line Feed Sensor (LF Film)
The printer tracks roller rotation using a clear plastic disc or strip with tiny microscopic lines printed on it. If this gets smeared with ink or grease, the sensor cannot read the rotation speed, triggering error 6000.
- Ensure the printer is unplugged.
- Open the main cover. Look to the far left side of the carriage area (next to the gears).
- Locate the clear, circular plastic disc or a vertical clear strip (depending on model).
- Use a cotton swab lightly dampened with window cleaner or isopropyl alcohol.
- Very gently wipe the clear plastic. Rotate the feed rollers manually (if possible) to clean the entire disc.
- Let it dry completely.
Step 3: Check the Output Tray Mechanism
Some models trigger a 6000 error if the motorized output tray fails to open.
- Ensure there are no physical obstructions blocking the front output tray from dropping.
- Gently pull the tray out manually if it seems stuck.
- Plug the printer back in and power it on.
