How to Fix Canon Printer Support Code B200

The Canon B200 error is a hardware fault indicating a problem with the printhead voltage or temperature. It forces the printer to lock up completely to prevent electrical damage.

Warning: The B200 error often indicates physical failure of the printhead, requiring replacement. However, manual cleaning can sometimes revive it. Do not attempt a firmware download to fix this issue.

Step 1: The Power Drain Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and open the cover.
  2. Turn the printer back on. The printhead carriage should begin to move to the left.
  3. Before the carriage reaches the left side, quickly close the cover.
  4. Leave the printer alone. If successful, it will bypass the error check and initialize.

Step 2: Manually Clean the Printhead

If the error persists, ink coagulation may be causing overheating.

  1. Unplug the printer.
  2. Open the cover and manually slide the carriage to the center.
  3. Remove all ink cartridges.
  4. Lift the grey locking lever to release and remove the printhead basket.
  5. Rinse the printhead under warm water until the water runs clear.
  6. Gently dab the copper contacts dry with a lint-free cloth. Let the printhead air dry for 24 hours.
  7. Reinstall the printhead and cartridges, then turn the printer on.

Step 3: Test with Alternate Cartridges

A short-circuit in a cartridge microchip can trigger the B200 error.

  1. Remove all cartridges.
  2. Install a new, unsealed set of cartridges.
  3. Perform a hard power cycle.
